Haydn Festival

Late yesterday evening I was given the opportunity to attend a concert. I really didn't know much about it other than it was going to consist of classical music. Once I arrived I discovered that it was one of 6 concerts being played that week in celebration of Joseph Haydn through the XVI. Haydn Festival of the Budapest Strings. The concert took place in the Esterházy Castle located in the town of Fertőd, a Hungarian village very near the border of Austria. This castle was home to the Esterházy family who Haydn worked for as the provider of music during the family's events and parties. It was interesting that Haydn actually wrote a new composition for every seperate event he played for.
The concert consisted of 4 different pieces; one symphony, two songs played by an orchestra with a soloist on the cello, and finally a piece originally written for a string quartet but played by the whole orchestra. The soloist, Somodari Péter, was incredible and wonderfully talented. I really enjoyed listening to the music, but even more being able to see this castle. It was not only beautiful from the outside but just as much on the inside. The room that the concert took place in was magnificent; quite small but decorated with such detail and precision.
