I was in awe of how beautiful the city truly is. Every time I leave Hungary I forget how incredible it is (especially at night); which means every time I see it again, it is liking I am seeing it for the first time. Just Splendid!
This is called Szabadság híd (Liberty or Freedom Bridge), but it used to be called the Ferenc József híd (Franz Joseph Bridge). It is one of the seven famous bridges in Budapest. I will write about each one at some point during this trip. At its two ends are Gellért tér (Gellért Square) and Fővám tér (Fővám Square). Part of my university is located on Fővám tér so this bridge and I will be spending some good quality time together.
Trams, cars and people are free to use this bridge
This is Fővám tér. It is located at one of the ends of the bridge. The building on the right is one of Corvinus' buildings and the building in the middle of the picture with the funny trapezoidal roof is called the Fővám téri csarnok (also called the Nagycsarnok meaning Grand Market). It is a very large beautiful market that is mostly sells souvenirs to tourists, but it is beautiful.
This hill with the statue of the woman on it is called Gellért hegy (which is why the the square is also called Gellért, because it is located at the foot of the hill). This hill is a wonderful hike and provides and impeccable view of the whole city. I will climb this again, maybe when it gets warmer.
Look at these funny seats I found. I wonder if anyone actually ever sits in them?
Here is a sneak preview of my school. I am standing in the main hall of what is called the E Building. E stands for "Északi" which means North. This building is the most northern building on the Corvinus campus, hence the name. This building is over 150 years old!
I saw more of my university, dormitory and the street I will be living on, but I decided that was too much for one post. So when I move in and start going to school then I will share all of that with you. Not to worry!
Here are some more pictures that I took of the bridge. It is just so beautiful I think. Especially at night, all lit up like this.
Viszontlátásra (a formal Hungarian good-bye),
Emilia (the Hungarian version of my name)
