Austria, The Parlament and A Hike!

On Sunday night we returned from a trip to Austria, where we hiked in the Dachstein Mountains, and visited Salzburg and Halstat. Even though it rained most of our trip it was still incredibly beautiful. It was wonderful just to get away from Budapest for a while and visit places that I have seen before, but don't seem to have any memory of what so ever, and visit places that I have never been to but my parents have shared many fond memories of with me. Although everything was magnificent, my favorite part was when we went to lake and took an hour long stroll around it on the last day. It was one of the most beautiful places, with an amazing view, that I have ever been to. Unfortunately we discovered it right before we were about to leave, but it was still breathtaking. Also something that I have discovered after walking through the Dachstein Mountains is that at some point in my future I really would love to go backpacking for a couple of weeks and just spend it camping out and seeing some amazing places.
On Monday I visited the Parlament. It was quite an experience considering that we had to wait for 2 hours outside, in the heat of the day with the sun barreling down on us, so that we could buy tickets for an English tour. I got sun burned! Although, the Parlament was absolutely beautiful inside and a wonderful experience to see the old crown of the Hungarian king. They don't have kings in Hungary anymore so now it is just used for display, but they were beautiful. Also we saw the guards of the crown march in. They come at the beginning of every hour, stay for 15 minutes and then leave; this routine happens every hour throughout the day.
Then on Tuesday Judit and I decided to take a hike. First we wanted to find the apartment that I lived in in 2000, but unfortunately we were unsuccessful. I thought I remembered what it looked like pretty clearly until I arrived and discovered that all 20 other apartment buildings were identical to my memory. Then we hiked to the highest point in Budapest which is on top of the János hill on the Buda side of the city. It rained while we were up there so we got stuck in the look out for about 45 minutes and then finally were able to leave and take the chairlift down from the top of the hill. The chairlift was the most exciting part.
Thanks for reading,
Emily

  1. Maybe you can go to Cseresznye Utca and find where you first lived. Cannot remember the number but maybe your Dad can. It was in the 11th district if I remember correctly. Olga can also show you. It has a wonderful view.
