Exploring Non-Tourist Life (Ireland Day #3/4/5)

While walking around the city we came across this little Irish dancing festival. It made me think of my little cousin who has been taking Irish dancing lessons for years. Here are some photos; I loved how their wigs bounced up and down when they were dancing.

I decided to simply wander yesterday and see what I found. I ended up walking around the residential and small business part of town and found my favorite piece of Irish architecture. Every building is completely bland except for the doors which are super elaborate and colorful. You can see a few of the doors below...but there were even more colors and types that I didn't capture. Almost every single door was different.

There were even some fun color pairs...Hope College....Christmas...(I also saw a maize and a blue door to next to each other, but since there was a guy standing in between the doors I couldn't take a photo without making him feel uncomfortable).

We ordered hot chocolate at this little cafe and it came has hot milk with chocolate chips on the side that you mix in to make the hot chocolate. That is such a cute idea!

And we saw Pitch Perfect 2.

Lastly, as some of you may know, on Friday there was a large Referendum to constitutionally legalize gay marriage in Dublin. Since I arrived, all over the city, Vote Yes and Vote No signs have been posted everywhere, people were handing out flyers/pins/stickers, and I even saw a Vote Yes car driving around the City Centre blasting music and reasons to vote yes. On Saturday the final decision was announced that the constitution was altered allowing homosexual unions to be referred to as marriages, making Ireland the first country in the world to do so. Yesterday I ran into huge parties filling the entire streets and others publicly protesting this change. It has been quite the controversy.

Now for some Irish words and phrases for ya:
- roaring = yelling
- We will regroup in the early hours of Sunday morning **This was said by a teenage boy to his other teenager friends**

That's all for now folks!

Emily
